The Gift of Fear, The Rose and Rewarding Bad Behavior
Good evening, Everyone! I hope everyone has had a great couple days!
A few years ago I was told to read a book by Gavin de Becker called “Protecting the Gift”. It lead me to his other book-”The Gift of Fear”. Back when I first read them I had a very young child(I think Hana was maybe 3-4 years old). When I am re-reading these books now, it takes on an entirely different meaning now that I have a teenager. Mr. de Becker has studied violence/crime and the warning signs extensively. His assertion to always listen to your intuition is the backbone of his belief and honestly, he is absolutely correct. His theories are right on and seemingly so simple, it REALLY makes you think. No matter who you are or what you do…regardless of what kind of circumstances you are in or will ever find yourself in-I highly recommend both of these books. I will give you a more complete review of both these books at a later date, however, I wanted to “get the word out there” on these books because I feel they are invaluable…especially in the times we are currently living in today:)
The Rose-by Bette Midler
I heard this on the way home from my ever so rewarding job of 20 hours per week selling beauty supplies. I was reminded of the beautiful lyrics this song has and wanted to share them with you. All of you have probably heard this song hundreds of time, however, please take a moment and actually speak these words out loud. They are amazing.
The Rose
Some say love it is a river
that drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razor
that leaves your soul to bleedSome say love it is a hunger
an endless aching need
I say love it is a flower
and you it’s only seed
It’s the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance
It’s the dream afraid of waking that never takes the chance
It’s the one who won’t be taken
who cannot seem to give
and the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live
When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been too long
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows
lies the seed that with the sun’s love
in the spring
becomes the rose
Rewarding Bad Behavior
Rewarding Bad Behavior. Seems to be the norm in the business world. How many times have I seen this happen? How many time have YOU seen it happen? The person who least deserves a break…the person who least deserves any consideration whatsoever, seems to get exactly what they want. All because of the “Squeaky wheel” syndrome…”If you don’t do this for me-I will do this TO you”…You know what I am talking about? And why is THIS behavior rewarded?
I want to actually SEE the Karma “hit” this person, but chances are I never will. If you are one of these people who is always rewarded for their Bad Behavior, I am highly suggesting you keep an eye out over your shoulder, because I have faith in Karma. Karma has hit me many times and trust me, it’s not a nice feeling.
Not a nice feeling at all.
Good night!!!
