Jesse Jackson, Mia Michaels and My Coffee House

Hi Everyone!

It has been a few days! I hope everyone is well and the weekend was a fabulous one!

Jesse Jackson

I know, I know!!! You’re probably thinking I’m “picking on” Jesse Jackson. However, let em tell you, he does so many STUPID and IGNORANT things it is SO easy! He makes himself a target of criticism and ridicule…and he LOVES it. Any time he can get himself into the news, his picture in some publication…he takes complete advantage of the opportunity!

Ok. So, I am reading the Chicago Tribune (which, by the way, sometimes is just one big waste of a tree) and there was a commentary by Clarence Page about Jesse Jackson.

SIDEBAR: I make a point of NOT referring him as a “Reverend”. No decent, honorable and truly good man who currently calls himself a Reverend would EVER, EVER act/speak the way the supposed “Reverend” Jesse Jackson has. I have plenty of names for him, however “Reverend” is not one of them. END SIDEBAR.

Anyhow, Mr. Page has written what I’m thinking was supposed to be a thoughtful and ultimately supportive article on Jesse Jackson and the N-Word Etiquette. Mr. Page suggests that within one’s own ethnic group(black?) it has been acceptable and accepted to use this word. To a certain extent he is correct, unless it is used in conflict or as a disparaging remark. I have seen Black people call each other this name and I have seen Black people who were in arguments calling each other this name, knowing it would instigate more conflict. Rarely, do you hear another ethnic group use the N-word…Lately, that’s been reserved for use by only one group…

However, Mr. Page says we hold Jesse Jackson to a higher standard of behavior. Which is absolute bullshit. The only person to hold Jesse Jackson to ANY standard is Jesse Jackson…and that is only because he has deluded himself into thinking he represents the Black people. He has deluded himself into thinking HE is the moral compass for race relations. He has deluded himself into thinking he is promoting racial equality, when he himself is one of the biggest racists in this country.

Jesse Jackson is not a good representation of the Black people. He does not represent them accurately. He does much more damage than good and I believe it’s time for him to stop. Nobody needs a person like him representing Black people. There are many more great examples of Black leaders today that represent their ethnic group with much more dignity, intelligence and integrity. Jesse Jackson had a mediocre success in his presidential race 20 years ago when he secured 7 million votes. However, that was TWENTY YEARS AGO. A lot has changed since then, but Jesse Jackson has not. He is still stuck in the mindset that the “white man is holding the brother down”. He needs to step into the current times…but he has not and honestly, it looks like he will not. That’s not the type of Black leader we need. It’s not the type of leader ANYONE needs.

Mr. Page, the people of this country DO acknowledge more than one Black leader. We just choose to NOT acknowledge Jesse Jackson as one of them.

Mia Michaels

My daughter and I have been watching “So You Think You Can Dance” for 3 years now and have LOVED every minute of it! (Except when Sabra won last year!) This show has done a wonderful job of showcasing choreographers and their unique (and sometimes interesting!) styles. One of the best and most unique has been Mia Michaels. Her style of choreography has been odd at times and breath taking at others. She has won an Emmy for one of her pieces on “So You Think You Can Dance” for an amazing piece involving a park bench and two amazingly talented performers. Ms. Michaels has choreographed for the Cirque de Soliel as well as Celine Dion’s Las Vegas production “A New Day”. It has been a rare occurrence when I have not enjoyed her work, 99.9% of the time I have been left speechless after a performance of her choreography.

Check a nice video of her work on YouTube…    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrgsqaMsP80   ……

My Coffee House

Most of you who know me, know I am working toward opening my own coffee house. I am not certain where, however, I do know where ever it will be it will happen within the next three years. I had and name picked out, however, I am no longer happy with that name and have decided to look at trying to figure out another name. My coffee house will incorporate a small selection of coffee, teas, and chocolate drinks. While being (cross my fingers) a completely “Green” and organic house. I will promote local musicians by having a stage available for performances and schedule band/group nights when local bands can come and try out their “stuff”. I will also have a selection of pastries and a small menu of salads, sandwiches, sides and soup. My main focus is to help local musicians and to create an atmosphere that is comfortable and serves as the local “watering hole” and gathering place.

I would appreciate anyone’s comments/help/suggestions on my business venture. Any information or tips you can offer me from the small business end to marketing/advertising would be welcome.

I am also searching for a new name … Suggestions??

Thanks for reading, everyone!
